OOTW: Thanksgiving Vegas Trip

by Monday, November 27, 2017
If there's one thing I can say about my family, it's that we are not very traditional. My mom loves to travel as much as she can and one of her favorite places to visit regularly is Las Vegas. We've been there for a lot of major celebrations: New Year's, my 21st birthday, weddings, etc. but we also go often for no reason at all. It's pretty much our second home and on our bucket list to stay at a different hotel on the strip each time we go. So this year my mom felt we were overdue for an LV trip and decided to go during Thanksgiving break. This meant that I got to pack for a fun, exciting Thanksgiving weekend and I documented my outfits of the week like I did last Thanksgiving!

I'll admit, at first I was hesitant about going. I'm a college student in my last year of school - my course load is busier than ever and I'm poorer than ever so all I wanted to do was come home, ignore all my responsibilities and eat lots of home cooked meals. As appealing as partying in Vegas was, I had been looking forward to Thanksgiving food and did not want to deprive myself of that comfort!! But thankfully, my mom found a restaurant (Margaritaville) that was offering Thanksgiving food on Thursday (that actually tasted legit!!) so I was able to have the best of both worlds.

Since it was technically Thanksgiving, I wanted to dress up a little so I curled my hair and wore a grey sweater dress from Forever 21 with a choker, and booties that I stole from my mom's closet years ago.

My mom plan's a full itinerary for every trip we take, so the next day was packed with things to do. One of the highlights of the day was getting on the High Roller, a ferris wheel that overlooks the entire Las Vegas strip (and has an open bar). We went at the perfect time right before sunset, so we got to see the transition from day to night and watch all the building's bright lights turn on.

Since I knew we'd be going to a lot of places, I wanted to turn heads everywhere I went. I wore a sheer graphic tee with cut-off shorts and paired them with my trusty thigh high boots and a maroon bomber jacket my boyfriend gave me that will most definitely become a new staple of mine!

Friday's itinerary included surprise tickets to the Beatles' LOVE Cirque Du Soleil show. I absolutely adore the Beatles so I was so excited for this and I knew I wanted to dress a little fancier for this event. However, at this point I was beginning to feel the pain and regret of walking in heels for the past two days, but I hadn't packed any flats to go with my dress! So I ended up wearing my sister's black sandals which might've looked a little weird given the fact that I was dressed so "warmly" up top, but at this point I was willing to sacrifice fashion for comfort.

After the show my mom, sister, and I went out for a few drinks and I felt a little ill-dressed since I was wearing a long-sleeved black dress from Old Navy and a sparkly maroon scarf, while they were dressed more appropriately to go out to bars. But by my second drink I was having so much fun I didn't even care and surprisingly ended up getting some compliments for my outfit, which made me feel less out of place and more like I stood out for the right reasons.

I'll admit, the weekend's festivities were catching up to me, so Saturday I planned to be as comfortable as possible while still trying to be stylish. I mentioned before that a denim shirt is one of those staples everyone should have in their closet and I have still been figuring out new ways to mix and match it, so this look was one of the more casual ways I dressed this denim shirt up.

I paired my denim button down from Target with regular black leggings, some denim pointed-toe sneakers by Wendy Williams, and a choker and black baseball cap. Baseball caps are a new thing I've been slowing introducing into my wardrobe and I find that they look best when I pair them with a choker so it's not too lazy of a look but still effortlessly casual. Since we did a lot of walking around and a lot of eating this day, this outfit was perfect to end the weekend.

Overall, it's not the traditional Thanksgiving weekend I had anticipated, but it was still tons of fun nonetheless. It gave me an excuse to try out some outfits in a flashier place like Las Vegas as opposed to in my hometown and I got to spend every minute with my family whom I missed very much. The best part about traveling with my mom and sister is that we can all share and swap shoes, clothes, and makeup tips!

Do you have any family traditions for your Thanksgiving break? How do you normally pack when you travel? My biggest flaw is packing shoes!! I either pack too many so I can have options (which compromises how much luggage I tug along) or I don't pack enough/efficiently and I end up walking around everywhere in heels!! Let me know some travel tips down below or share what you did this Thanksgiving break!

OOTW: Holiday Edition

by Monday, December 26, 2016
First off, I apologize for the lack of posts the last two weeks, my laptop broke and lost everything on my hard drive, which contained the contents of the scheduled posts! I am looking into trying to salvage what I can from the hard drive but in the mean time, the show must go on! This week I decided to do another Outfit of the Week(end) post detailing what I wore for the Christmas weekend, as well as what I will most likely be wearing for the upcoming New Year's Eve!
Please read through to the end for an upcoming announcement!!

 Thursday: Friend's Proposal

☀️46°

My longtime friend from high school was planning to propose to his girlfriend the day before Christmas Eve, so he wanted us all to be there. We made plans to go for drinks before and walk around the El Paso San Jacinto Plaza which was decorated with lights and Christmas decorations because that's where he wanted to do it. It was so cute and so sweet!

I'll admit, I didn't want to wear my glasses because I'm still adjusting to wearing them 24/7, but I wanted to be able to actually see the proposal, and I haven't gotten contacts yet, so I gave in. Because this night was going to be a good one, I decided to wear an outfit I had planned for another event but never got to wear after all. I had originally paired this outfit with black knit tights and a brown knot choker, but the knee-high socks look much better, and I still had a hold of my roommate's choker so I took advantage of it. It was slightly cold outside but my sweater was so thick it kept me warm, but once we got to the bar inside I was boiling! It was hard to find that balance with an outfit like this but I survived. (Lipstick: Marc Jacob's "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang")

Friday: Christmas Eve
☀️55°

I'm Mexican, so we celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve. Normally we have a huge gathering with lots of family members, but this year we decided to keep it small with just my immediate family (which is still rather large in general) so I decided to keep my outfit casual. I think this is probably my favorite outfit of the entire weekend, not just because it was so comfy, but because it includes a lot of my personal favorites. I love doing my hair in a half-bun, I love love love those combat boots (stolen from my mom), and I love my roommate's choker. Fun fact about the flannel: I actually bought that shirt in the men's section, and I don't regret it! (Lipstick: Mac "Instigator.")

Saturday: Christmas Day
☀️63°

Since the day before had been very casual at home, I decided Christmas day visiting other's homes would be a formal occasion. I love the color of this dress, it's so bright and I wanted something that stood out from the regular Christmas reds and greens.

This dress is actually my bridesmaid dress from my best friend's wedding earlier in September! She let all her bridesmaids choose their own dress as long as they were blue so her entire bridal party were various different hues of blue, it was so cool. She gave us the freedom to choose our own dresses because she wanted us to actually want to wear our bridesmaids dresses again, so that's exactly what I did! These nude wedges are probably some of my favorite shoes to wear ever; I've broken them in so well I can probably run a marathon in them. Also, fun fact, the necklace I had was a little too short for my liking, so I linked 3 large paper clips together and fastened the necklace to them to make it longer! Hey, whatever works to get the look! (Lipstick: City Color Cosmetics "Bare With Me").

**Upcoming Saturday** New Year's Eve
Weather forecast: ☀️46°

When it comes to New Year's, I am all about my motto: go big or go home!! No point in showing out when you don't do it all the way through! There are two things I will never get tired of no matter how tacky they may seem: leopard print, and thigh-high boots. I'm obsessed!! Both immediately spice up any plain outfit - try it out and you'll see I'm right! Fun fact: I actually got inspired by this outfit from my Bitmoji character! I also decided to add cat ears because to me cat ears always seem like the perfect fun party piece. (Lipstick: Nars "Cruella").

My outfit for NYE might change based on plans; right now I'm anticipating simply going out bar hopping with friends but if I end up seeing Deadmau5 that night with my sister, my outfit will definitely change! I'm not sure yet if that will happen, so we'll see!

And while we're on the subject of New Year's, Red Raider Runway's upcoming Business Attire Series will feature various different posts on how to dress for business, throughout the entire month of January! There is no better time like the beginning of a new year to get pointers on how to make your work attire match your work ethic! Please stay tuned and look forward to that starting next week!

OOTW: Thanksgiving Weekend

by Monday, November 28, 2016
Isn't it strange how every year we dress up for the holidays just to stand around the kitchen and eat? This year I suggested to my mom that we forego dressing up and showing up to our Thanksgiving dinner in pajamas...but she didn't go for it! I'm not sure why, she kept dodging my questions!, but I am going to try and convince her for Christmas though. Hopefully I'll get more people on my side to convince her this time around!

So because I had to dress up, I decided to do a series of OOTD's, or "Outfit of the Day"s for this past Thanksgiving weekend because it was quite eventful. These are my Outfits of the Week(end)! I have also included where I got my articles from if possible just to show that where you get your clothes from doesn't matter as long as you make it look good.

☀️73°
Thanksgiving Parade

Every year my hometown has a tradition of putting on a local parade. It started at 10am but it gets packed so my family and I knew to be there by 8am to get good seats. It was a little windy and chilly so I made sure to keep warm enough with light layers. I almost wore heeled boots but I'm so glad I opted for my go-to brown boots instead because I ended up walking for hours to find a spot to sit!

Thanksgiving Dinner

After the parade, I had plenty of time to nap and get ready for dinner! Since my mom shot down my PJs suggestion, I was going to go all out looking nice for dinner. I've always known Charlotte Russe was my favorite store (I just love their affordable selection!) but seeing it laid out in plain text that I'm dressed head-to-toe in CR is a little embarrassing! I should also point out that this outfit was recently purchased to be worn as my Halloween costume, so I wanted to get good use out of it a second time!

Black Friday

I've never been Black Friday shopping, ever. But this year I really needed a sturdy, supportive backpack that could hold all my stuff because the 2 I had were falling apart! So I asked my grandma if she could buy me one I had been eyeing at Victoria's Secret PINK and she said yes. I figured going on Black Friday would be ideal because there would probably be sales that we could take advantage of. But I forgot that my grandma is a major shopaholic, so we didn't just go to one store! After 6 hours of shopping in purple high-heeled boots, my feet were killing me! I know I shouldn't have worn them, but they are my mom's boots and every time I come into town to visit, I always try to take advantage of the selection of shoes my mom has and wear them because I can't wear them when I'm back in Lubbock! The boots from this outfit are not the only thing borrowed though; the shirt and cardigan are both my roommate's as well! I absolutely love the edginess of the cardigan and t-shirt design. I'm notorious for borrowing people's stuff, no shame!

Friendsgiving

This year my sister decided to throw a "Friendsgiving" dinner for her close friends on Saturday. I knew it was going to be a more casual event than actual Thanksgiving, but I still wanted to dress up somewhat. Much like my previous outfit, the cardigan was borrowed from my roommate and the shoes and earrings were my mom's! I can't help it, I like to switch up my usual looks with different pieces I can't normally wear!

It was a great weekend visiting my hometown and playing around with different looks. In the past I never really wore cardigans but this fall they have really become a staple of mine. I'll probably continue doing OOTW posts for special holiday weeks!
